Course Assessment & Examination

Eligibility for final examinations is dependent upon satisfactory progression throughout the course, number of absence hours being within the rules, fee payments being up to date, proficient standard being achieved and the completion of course work.

Registration for the international examinations will only be conducted at the recommendation of the student’s educator, based on the student’s performance and progress during the course of study. All International examination fees must be paid in full on registration and are not refundable once registration has taken place. No cancellation can be made once registration of examination is done and submitted. A separate contract with FPS protection for the examination fees is required to complete the registration process.

All students that are registered for the international examinations are required to sit for an internal preliminary examination 1 month prior to the actual international examination. If students fail the internal preliminary examination, it will not affect the students to sit for the international examination. They will be offered the retake examination within one week. If students do not want to attend the retake, they shall not be awarded for the in house certificate. Students shall be responsible for the outcome of international exam.

In case of a candidate arriving late to their exam (mock exam/in house exam/actual exam), if there’s 80% of time remaining, permission to enter is at the Examiner’s discretion. If the Examiner/Invigilator feels that it would be disruptive, they can refuse entry completely.

In the event of absent or On Leave, AES will not re-arrange any Mock Exam/In House Exam. Thus, you will not receive the certificate from AES.

You will be assessed in both Theory and Practical examinations. You must receive a minimum of 60% (CIBTAC, ITEC), 70% (CIDESCO, CIDESCO Post Grad) in both Theory and Practical examinations in order to be considered to have passed the internal examination.

Example based on CIDESCO course:
Example 1: Theory Score = 70% Practical Score = 80% Average = 75% Outcome = Pass
Example 2: Theory Score = 68% Practical Score = 90% Average = 78% Outcome = Fail (minimum of 70% not achieved in Theory Paper)

Re-Sitting of Internal Preliminary Examination

If you fail to reach the minimum score in either the theory or practical (or both) component of the internal exam, you will be given another opportunity to re-take the whole examination or component of it at the sole discretion of the academy.

The re-take must be done within 1 week following the failure of the internal assessment. Any appeals on the sitting for the international exam shall be directed to the examination board. The decision from the examination board is final and no further appeal will be entertained.

International examinations are assessed by external examiners provided by the International examinations bodies. Policies and fees for International exams are governed by the individual International Examining Boards.

International examinations for CIBTAC and ITEC will take place in January, April, July and November of every year. The academy organize about 3-4 examinations in a year for the CIBTAC and ITEC courses. An official exam notification will be given to candidates at least 1 month prior to the examination. The exam schedule will consist of information such as exam date, time, venue, items to bring etc. International examinations for CIDESCO, CIBTAC and ITEC will be conducted at the end of the course or the next nearest exam date, whichever is later.

Absence from examinations

Students who are absent from examinations must have valid reason. They must produce valid medical certificate or supporting documentation to the school within seven (7) working days of the exam date.

Breach of Examination Rules

All students are hereby warned that cheating in examinations and other assessed work is a very serious offence. This includes copying and using plagiarised material.

Any student who cheats, attempts to cheat or breaches any examination rules will face disciplinary action. The student is liable to be expelled.

Rules of Conduct for Examinations and Test

  1. The identity of all candidates will be checked during the examination/test. Candidates must bring their AES Student Card and place it at the right hand corner of their examination desk at the commencement of each examination/test.
  2. Candidates may read the examination/test paper or commence writing only after the invigilator has given permission to do so. Candidates are also required to check that they are given the correct question paper.
  3. In case of a candidate arriving late to their exam (mock exam/in house exam/ actual exam), if there’s 80% of time remaining, permission to enter is at the Examiner’s discretion. If the Examiner/Invigilator feels that it would be disruptive, they can refuse entry completely.
  4. If a candidate is late for an examination/test and subsequently sees a doctor and obtains a medical certificate, any application for leave of absence from that examination/test will not be accepted. The same applies if a candidate starts the examination/test or sees the question paper but does not complete the examination/test for reasons of illness and subsequently obtains a medical certificate, any application for leave of absence from that examination/test will not be accepted. Candidates are advised to see a doctor if they are unwell and not attempt to turn up for the examination/test.
  5. Candidates are not allowed to bring to the examination/test room notes, drawings, pictures, tracings, books, dictionaries (both in book or electronic form), etc, other than those specially permitted by the examiner/invigilator. They are also not allowed to wear caps or hats during the examination/test.
  6. Handphones, media players and any other electronic devices e.g. smart watches and google glasses are also not allowed. Handphones, alarms, media players and any other electronic devices must be switched off and left at the locker. If a candidate’s handphone rings or sounds, he/she will be issued a warning letter for the first offence and fined a sum of $50 for each subsequent offence.
  7. Candidates are not allowed to pass anything to other candidates during the examination/test.
  8. A candidate must not, for any reason, speak to or have communication with another candidate. If any candidate wishes to ask a question, she/he must ask the invigilator directly.
  9. Any candidate who wishes to communicate with an invigilator must remain seated and raise his hand.
  10. Candidates must not eat or drink during the examination/test. However, candidates may request for permission from the invigilator to drink water from their own water bottles.
  11. If a candidate is found breaking any of these rules during the examination/test or afterwards, his paper will not be marked, and he may be told to leave the examination/test room.
  12. Any action by a candidate contrary to the letter or spirit of these rules whether discovered during the examination/test or afterwards will disqualify the candidate.
  13. Disciplinary action will be taken against any candidate found breaching of any of the examination/test rules, caught cheating or attempting to cheat.
